The classification of types of surrogacy is determined by the method of embryo creation and whether the surrogate mother has a biological relationship with the child. So, traditional and gestational surrogacy are divided into two types. Previously, when fertility treatment technologies were not as developed as they are now, there was only traditional surrogacy. It used the egg of a surrogate mother, which was fertilized with the sperm of the intended father. Therefore, the surrogate mother had a genetic connection with the child, which in many cases caused emotional and ethical tensions and complicated the legal registration of the child. Today, due to these contradictions, this type of surrogacy is illegal in many countries. The traditional method was replaced by the gestational method, which became possible thanks to the technology of in vitro fertilization “IVF”. In gestational surrogacy, an embryo is created in a laboratory using the egg and sperm of the intended parents. This embryo is then transferred into the uterus of the gestational carrier. And the surrogate mother has no genetic connection with the child, and for the intended parents it is an opportunity to have biological children. Also, during gestational surrogacy, it is possible to use donors of biological material, these will be third parties not related to the surrogate mother.
