Basic definitions of surrogacy

Let’s consider the main definitions of surrogate motherhood. Surrogacy is an agreement under which a surrogate mother agrees to carry and give birth to a child for other people. A surrogate mother is a woman who carries and gives birth to a child for the intended parents. Intended parents are those who want to have a child through surrogacy. A surrogacy agency is a surrogacy professional who accompanies and coordinates all participants in the surrogacy process from the very beginning to the end. The fertility clinic is a place where all the medical manipulations necessary for the process of surrogacy take place. In the event that it is not possible for the intended parents to use their own eggs and sperm, egg and sperm donors come to the rescue. Traditional surrogacy is when the surrogate mother’s own egg is used and she has a biological connection with the child. Gestational surrogacy uses eggs and sperm from intended parents or donors and the surrogate mother is not genetically related to the child. Commercial surrogacy involves monetary compensation for the surrogate mother for participating in the process. Altruistic surrogacy covers only the expenses related to pregnancy and childbirth. International surrogacy is when the surrogate mother and intended parents live in different countries.
