Surrogacy is a pregnancy in which a child is carried and born for another woman who cannot do it herself. This applies to women who, for example, were born without a uterus or had it removed due to an illness, as well as due to any illness in which a woman is prohibited from bearing a child. Gestational surrogacy is a procedure in which the embryo of the intended parents is transferred to the womb of the surrogate mother with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the surrogate mother carries and gives birth to a child with whom there is no biological connection.
