Surrogacy is when a woman carries a child instead of another woman. This is due to the fact that the surrogate mother agrees to carry a child for those who are unable to do it on their own due to illnesses that do not allow them to carry a child, fertility problems, single parents, same-sex couples, people not of reproductive age. At the same time, all these people can have a child genetically related to them. This becomes possible with gestational surrogacy, when an embryo created with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF) is transferred to the surrogate mother’s womb. When creating this embryo, the biological material of the parents or donors is used, and therefore the surrogate mother has no genetic connection with the child. And in the vast majority of cases, at least one of the parents has a biological connection with the child. It also facilitates the legalization of the child after birth.
