What is the difference between traditional and gestational surrogacy?

In traditional surrogacy the egg of the surrogate mother is used.

A medical procedure called intrauterine insemination is performed.

The intended father’s sperm is being transfered to the surrogate mother’s uterus.

In the case of gestational surrogacy, an ovum of the intended mother or a donor is used.

And the technology of in vitro fertilization (IVF) is utilized, embryos are produced in the laboratory and transferred to the uterus of a surrogate mother.

So, the main difference is that during gestational surrogacy a child has no genetic link with a surrogate mother.

In the same time the child has genetic link to one or both intended parents.
